Welcome to Mrs. Cain's Library Site

Hi friends, I am an elementary school librarian in Chesterfield County Public Schools, located in Virginia, USA.  My site has news, links, tips, and examples of 21st Century learning tools.

The school library is an exciting place to be in the 21st century. There is still an emphasis on nurturing the joy of reading through storytime, booktalks, and one-on-one recommendations, but today's school library is also an exciting place of online research and creativity.

Celebrating Reading &

National Library Week

To celebrate National Library Week and Reading, we played the video Gotta Keep Reading, found on You Tube and Teacher Tube.  Check out this video of Oceoo Middle School singing and dancing their own version of the Black Eyed Peas' song, I Gotta Feelin.'  Great tie-in to copyright (they got permission from the band to rewrite the lyrics).

Glogster is a cool way to make on-line posters.  Think creative, innovative, high-interest technology.   Here is an example of a book report Glogster. Soon, my 5th grade classes will be creating their on Glogster book reports.

Worms in the Library??

Recently, Mrs. Cain's  red wiggler composting worms made a visit to the library to support Earth Day and Virginia SOL curriculum.  We read Diary of A Worm by Doreen Cronin, visited with my darling worms at work and sang a cool composting rap song.  Check out this video posted on You Tube:
