The school library is an exciting place to be in the 21st century. There is still an emphasis on nurturing the joy of reading through storytime, booktalks, and one-on-one recommendations, but today's school library is also an exciting place of online research and creativity. 2010 Caldecott and Newberry Winners The 2010 Caldecott Medal winner is The Lion and the Mouse, by Jerry Pinkney Beautifully illustrated, this wordless story retells the fable of the Lion and Mouse. 2010 Calecott Honor Books are Red Sings From Treetops by Joyce Sidman, and All the World by Liz Garton Scanlan, illustrated by Marla Frazee. The 2010 Newberry Medal book is When you Reach Me by Rebecca Stead. A story of friendship, family, and time-travel.
Celebrating Reading &National Library WeekTo celebrate National Library Week and Reading, we played the video Gotta Keep Reading, found on You Tube and Teacher Tube. Check out this video of Oceoo Middle School singing and dancing their own version of the Black Eyed Peas' song, I Gotta Feelin.' Great tie-in to copyright (they got permission from the band to rewrite the lyrics). |
GlogsterGlogster is a cool way to make on-line posters. Think creative, innovative, high-interest technology. Here is an example of a book report Glogster. Soon, my 5th grade classes will be creating their on Glogster book reports.

Worms in the Library??Recently, Mrs. Cain's red wiggler composting worms made a visit to the library to support Earth Day and Virginia SOL curriculum.
